Ovzon affords clarity for their Ovzon 3 launch schedule

August 23, 2022 by editorial

Ovzon is reporting that the details and clarity around the launch of Ovzon 3 have increased significantly during recent months.

The critical key components that were previously delayed are now delivered to the firm’s production partner, Maxar, as well as our the company’s developed On-Board-Processor, which is now integrated and under testing on the satellite. This communication platform will offer secure connectivity in all kinds of conditions.

Ovzon 3 is now entering the final stages of integration and assembly with active final tests, including the Thermal Vacuum Test. Given that all tests perform well, and that all logistics and coordination is achieved, the launch of Ovzon 3 will occur sometime during the December 2022 to February 2023 timeframe. The company has received this launch slot from partner Arianespace at their spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, as part of the total launch plan. Post-launch, approximately another four months will be required before the satellite is in an operational position and can be used for customer deliveries.

Due to the delay in the launch of Ovzon 3, the pre-capacity commitment of $56.2 million from Intelsat General Communications (IGC) has been, in accordance with the agreement, reduced by 5 percent in the third quarter and will most likely be adjusted down by another 10 percent in the fourth quarter and will then amount to $47.8 million. Considering the solid relationship and collaboration with Intelsat and IGC plus the increased demand for Ovzon services, the firm’s assessment is that this decreased amount will not have any impact on future revenues for Ovzon 3.
